Description
It seems that for some reason Moin pages only want to allow you to search once from any given page visit. I am constantly running into this annoyance, and I'm having a hard time understanding the logic behind it.
Steps to reproduce
- Search for something using the default search box provided by the theme.
- Return back to the page you searched from (use Back button)
Try to edit your search or type in new search terms, and the Title and Text buttons remain grayed out, preventing you from searching again.
In most cases you shouldn't "need" to do this, since the search results page will automatically contain the same search string you type in the previous page, and you can edit the search string and search from that page instead. (For some reason, the search results page allows you as many re-searches as you want.)
But in the natural course of navigation, I end up running into this situation anyway, and it's rather maddening.
The most compelling case is when you do a search, and there is only one match. The wrong match. MoinMoin bypasses the search results page when there is a single match, and takes you directly to that page. In this case, your search terms are not carried forward to the search box on that page. So if you want to modify (rather than re-type) your search, you want to go back to the previous page. Alas, you can see your search criteria, but can't push the search buttons.

Workaround
- Retype your criteria
- Cut-and-paste from old window to new
- Reload/Refresh the page. (This re-enables the search buttons, but also erases your search criteria, so it really is not helpful.)
Discussion
This is more of a usability issue than a bug, but I find it rather inexplicable why someone would choose for the search box to work in this way. Please, please, please don't make the argument that we "should not" be using the Back button. It is an indispensible part of the browsing experience, especially when it comes to navigating between searches and search results.
Well, this bug doesn't happen for me. I am using modern theme and Firefox.
There is a known bug that pasting into the search field might not enable the buttons, though.
- This was a Firefox user interface bug - pasting to a text field should trigger onchange event but it did not. Fixed in Firefox 2.0.0.4 on Mac OS X. This still happens with 2.0.4 on Linux.
