Description
FileLinks describes why we since some time can't use the file: schema on a wiki page. We have it still defined as valid url_schemas. Also we have an example which is not useful in HelpOnMoinWikiSyntax.
Steps to reproduce
This did not link to that file
It creates a link as expected, I do not see a moin bug here.
Moin's html output:
<a class="file" href="file://///server/share/filename%20with%20spaces.txt">link to filename.txt</a>

Discussion
We should remove it completly -- ReimarBauer 2011-08-24 20:45:59
- No, we do not remove that. If it does not work, it is not a moin problem, but a browser / browser configuration problem. This is no different than with a lot of other schemas we support for urls: your browser needs to be correctly configured to handle them.
- Our documentation shows an example which on default did not work.
Give a hint in the HelpSyntax, otherwise starters could not understand the problem.
Please read the discussion on FileLinks. If this schema is not supported by browsers we should remove it.
No, we do not remove it from the moin code. We also support e.g. ssh: and many other protocols and they also likely do not work "out of the box" for most browsers, but need appropriate browser configuration by the user.
