Automatic toc creation

I would like to see an option (or plugin) for an automated toc creation similar to MediaWiki. By this way one would not have to add an [[TableOfContents]] on every page. I think it is a good idea to auto-toc only if some more headers exist.

I can save much time if toc would be automatic. It would also be possible to render toc at a standard location.

This feature is for all those wikis, tha always create many sections on many pages and where people tend to forget to make a toc for better overview. A good example is the usage of http://live.gnome.org. Many user do not know about the toc function. So adding a toc is more for advanced users, although ordinary user could profit if this would cam up automatically.

Does not sound like a principle that is very suitable for a Python wiki. Too much magic (which could lower usability), unpythonic. I suggest to make this information available to the user in a different manner - by improving help pages etc. -- AlexanderSchremmer 2006-02-24 22:20:53

It might be possible to replace the "thank you for your edit" message with "Thank you for your edit. This page is quite long, it might use a TableOfContents. Edit the page and add [[TableOfContents]] to get one" :) -- JohannesBerg 2006-07-24 10:42:32

For code that will implement this, see MoinMoinPatch/AutoTableOfContents

Isn't it possible to do this on the theme level (I mean the python script that creates the pages) -- ThiloPfennig 2007-05-08 14:37:32

ATTENTION MoinMoin 1.6 Users, you have to use: <<TableOfContents>> for the TableOfContents !!!

Too much magic, too little plan. Reject. -- JohannesBerg 2008-03-18 00:12:58
