Short description
IPhone skin for MoinMoin, be used automatically when the mobile Safari browser would be detected.
Problem to solve
Better formatting for a handheld device such as the iPhone. Presently using MoinMoin is not so handy on that device.
There are other real problems to solve:
- edit does not work for long wiki pages, it is not possible to scroll inside the edit frame
- each time another page is opened, the appropriate zoom factor has to be adjusted again (we need a chance to adopt font size / save font size)
- status line and other "head lines" take too much screen space, we need a method to switch navigation buttons on/off
Usefulness
This feature would be useful only for user accessing/editing MoinMoin pages on the go with an iPhone. But the user base is growing fast and it would be a great app to have a normal Web wiki adapted to the device.
Comments
- dokuwiki has the minimal_mobile theme. Would something like that suffice?
- "modernized" theme should work quite ok with small screens
- if someone wants to create something more special, I suggest a theme that works great in general, on all mobile or small-screen devices, not just on the iphone
Good idea. But if you look to the huge contingent of iPhone usage within mobile surfing it might be justified to offer a special iPhone theme. Here is a nice Example apparently based on this: http://code.google.com/p/iui/
So, who is paying a IPhone 3G with contract for the theme developer?
If you have your own wiki server, please try this patch: https://bitbucket.org/thomaswaldmann/moin-1.9/pull-requests/7/add-meta-tags-for-small-device-viewports/diff
