How to make a backup of your current Wiki
Backing up the wiki
Note that text below uses the term wiki directory - this means the directory you installed all your wiki stuff below, not the wiki/ directory (that has only some CSS and images).
- Usually it's enough to backup the wiki directory, which contain the config files and server script.
- You do not need to backup the underlay directory.
- If your config files or server script are not inside the wiki directory, backup the config files and server script separately.
- If you are using Apache, you should also backup your httpd configuration, which can be several files, according to your Apache configuration style and platform.
- You might want to do this with a script that run every day, and save the wiki in another machine, possibly in another location.
- If you can, backup the wiki as root, in a way that save ownership and permissions, so you can easily restore it later.
A useful hint from #moin: If you do a remote backup, use rsync, it will save lots of bandwidth.
Note that your wiki directory contains user private data and hashed passwords.
