Discussion

I remind the existence of the Dialogue principles, Part 10 of ISO 9241 (=DIN 9241 =EN 9241) Ergonomic requirements for office work with visual display terminals, which requires a dialogue system to conform to suitability for the task (the dialogue should be suitable for the user’s task and skill level), self-descriptiveness (the dialogue should make it clear what the user should do next), and conformity with user expectations (it should be consistent). The current implementation of the links to the UserPreferences and MyPages pages is neither self-descriptive, nor consistent.

Tools working on the user's account, or on the wiki as a whole must not be mixed, nor grouped together with tools working on a single page.

This issue makes this version of MoinMoin unsuitable for a stable release, because it breaks acknowledged common standards.

I strongly agree that this reduced the usability very much. I suggest reverting the removal of the login link. There is no technical reason to have it hidden in the drop down box. -- AlexanderSchremmer 2006-03-26 14:02:49

I do have some problems with the naming of the MyPages action. That is a bit confusing. Because it could be misinterpreted as list of already existing pages I have had created. MyPages should be better named to NewPage and should be used in general to create pages with the NewPage macro and in addition to create MyPages. In my eyes this would be in general more useful. And very new users could create new pages much easier.

I don't see why UserPreferences should be placed somewhere else than the login/logout link.

Furthermore, the MyPages action is closely related to your personal homepage, so why should a related action be placed somewhere else than the link to it? All tools working on your personal account, settings, and so on need to be grouped together in a consitent manner and named clearly. -- MartinBayer 2006-03-26 17:24:11

Re my suggestion: I talked about reverting the position of the link, that is very concrete. -- AlexanderSchremmer 2006-03-26 18:50:18
