What is a personal wiki?

This is a desktop application, just like any other application. Any user can install it and create a new wiki without knowing anything about http, apache, host names or other stuff that most people do not know about.

A person might use this wiki for personal notes, as a PIM, to share stuff with friends and family and like. For example, a recipe data base.

First step

The first step will be an easy to install package with web or native based configuration.

MoinMoin application

The Farm

The farm will be saved in a user specified location, and will contain all wikis directories. When upgrading, the farm should not change.

Next

Here are some ideas that can be implemented later:

  1. Native wiki client:
  2. RealTimeWiki - adding IRC client to the client, talk with others on the wiki

  3. Develop an optimized theme for small handheld devices with low screen resolution (i.e. add a CSS for media="handheld" which uses a smaller logo, no search boxes, no interwikititel etc.) to have a real MobileMoin!

  4. Ideas, help and examples of use provided, maybe even on the FrontPage ?

    • Example of wiki usage? is not clear.
  5. How about a MoinMoin extension for Firefox ? Anyone know how to write firefox extension module using python ?

    • What is a MM Firefox extension? what do you want to do with it?
      • - manage bookmarks - manage notes (similar to google notes)

There is a sidebar for Firefox called Wikalong (http://www.wikalong.org/) that might be a good place to start the "MoinMoin Firefox extension." In the wikalong.jar file is a file called listener.js located in the \content\wikalong directory. Line 24 of that file sets the location of the wiki used by the sidebar. That location could be modified to use whatever wiki the user desires. Or you can just install Wikalong 0.15 (dev version) and define a MoinMoin server as a backend with the provided UI. A "stable" release should be coming soon. --JohnCappiello (Wikalong Dev)

  1. Why not use GtkMozEmbed ?

  2. What about a cocoa-based interface for the MoinMoin core? It would be a superb app!
