Migrating Mail To mail.python.org
it's done!
Pros
increased exposure to more Python developers at https://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo
- now is a good time because project is at low activity
Cons
- changing is a hassle for subscribers, will likely lose some
Note: maybe we already lost some. ThomasWaldmann recently got a ton of unsubscription notifications at once. Malfunction at SF? Bounce-handling?
Path
SourceForge uses mailman 2.1, and allows access to backups to admins (see Features) https://sourceforge.net/p/forge/documentation/Mailing%20Lists/
mail.python.org uses mailman per https://wiki.list.org/COM/Organizations%20that%20use%20Mailman
- get a backup from sourceforge and ask an admin at mail.python.org to create project and restore backup
https://sourceforge.net/p/forge/documentation/Mailing%20List%20Archives/
- Ralf Hildebrandt at postmaster @ python.org says he can do that
- announce migration date for Wednesday, June 15, see if there are any objections
- any mail from time of backup to restoration on mail.python.org can be manually forwarded
