Description

Copying from a Word 2003 document and pasting into GUI Mode in MoinMoin 1.7.2 causes an "ExpatError: unbound prefix...".

Steps to reproduce

1. Copy from the attached word document 2009-01-04.DOC

2. Create a new page and edit in GUI Mode.
3. Paste into the new page.
4. Click "Preview" or "Save Changes"

5. You get the attached "ExpatError: unbound prefix..."

• I can reproduce the bug by copying from the Word document in Word 2003 SP3 on Windows XP Pro SP3.
• I'm pasting into GUI mode in Firefox 3.0.5

Workaround

• We've tried the "Word2Wiki" program, but you lose a lot of formatting (e.g. centering and some line-breaks).

Discussion

• I see this bug mentioned in version 1.5, with the implication that it may be fixed. However, I think our version of MoinMoin (1.7.2) is newer, so it appears that the bug is still present.

  • well word is and will always stay a problem child, but you also should only import over the button/function "past from word", and then do some clean up with "Ignore Font Face definitions" and "Remove Styles definitions". That's maybe help... but you will definitly loose some word formatting. I think it's realy not easy to write a "word to html to wiki" importer...
  • Yes, I probably should have prefaced this bug report with "boy, I don't envy anybody trying to make this work." I know this is probably an unending battle. I suspect that it could break every time MS releases a patch for Word, or every time somebody uses a new combination of formatting. I never noticed the little "paste from word" button before. Thanks for that :).

• UPDATE 2: I tried it with the "paste from word" button. In MoinMoin 1.7.2, I get "process_inline: Don't support link element". Here's the traceback for that: traceback2.html. If I repeat that experiment here on this wiki, it takes the text, but removes all of the formatting except for bolding. This is just FYI. I've pointed my users at the Word to MoinMoin converter as an alternate solution. -- TerryLacy 2009-01-12 22:31:46
