Workaround
No one known.
Does the problem still happen if you define mail_from = u"wiki@yoursite.com"?
Yes. It seems it can't even open a socket... By the way, it works fine in 1.5.1 (the buggy behaviour is on 1.5.0).
I have tried putting os.system('echo %s |mail <myself>' % msg.as_string(), but then the password is in UTF (I guess) so it's really not a workaround. I can't find documentation on resetting passwords so I'm stuck at this point. --MicahElliott
Now I have worked around this in the prescribed fashion (HelpOnConfiguration/EmailSupport) by setting mail_sendmail but the password enclosed in the mail looks like: {SHA}+9ls+wS+.... How do I send the password in plaintext? --MicahElliott
What is wrong with the encrypted password, you don't need to know the decrypted one just enter this string -- ReimarBauer 2006-01-27 19:54:30
- You're just missing the point. This is not !ICantRecoverMyPassword. If the system can't e-mail, you can't effectively subscribe to a page. Moreover,
if you are subscribed, the weird traceback would be shown everytime someone else edited the page.
If you read again he is asking about to send the plaintext password. But I understand your point too. But not all of us do have this trouble too. So the problem is to ask the right question to understand this behaviour. Did you have seen a log entry in the webserver log files too? -- ReimarBauer 2006-01-27 21:30:09

Discussion
I have also hit this problem. The traceback is identical to the one originally reported. My Python version is 2.4.2. I just upgraded to Moin 1.5.1 but it did not help -- I still have the problem! I am able to send mail on the server with "echo hello |mail <myself@example.com>" . Please let me know of any other details you need -- feel free to email me. Thanks for your efforts! --MicahElliott
- Please could you do a diff on the tracebacks just to check if it really is identical.
Please attach a new traceback where mail_from is not empty AND mail_smarthost is not empty! |
Sorry, to do this I'd have to rollback to Moin 1.5.0 and I can't - it's my workplace wiki. Shame on me, sould have done this before upgrading. --CarlosVieira
- So you currently use what version? If it is fixed in 1.5.1 we can just close this...
Yes, I think it is fixed in 1.5.1, as said before. But it seems some people disagree, as this bug has previously been declared Fixed (but now it's not). -- CarlosVieira

- Status: not fixed by 1.5.1
