Description
The translation template, i18n/MoinMoin.pot, fails to give examples for some essential header lines: X-Language, X-Language-in-English, and the optional X-Direction--a sample line for X-HasWikiMarkup might be useful as well.
We've run into this with Moin 1.3, but the problem still seems to be there in 2.0.
Steps to reproduce
Create a new .po file i18n/nn.po by copying i18n/MoinMoin.pot.
In the i18n directory: make
- Fails because of missing entries.
Example
The Catalan translation in i18n/ca.po starts out like:
# # MoinMoin ca system text translation # msgid "" msgstr "" "Project-Id-Version: moin 0.5.0rc1\n" "Report-Msgid-Bugs-To: \n" "POT-Creation-Date: 2006-07-07 12:38+0200\n" "PO-Revision-Date: 2005-12-21 12:55+0100\n" "Last-Translator: Jordi Mallach <jordi@sindominio.net>\n" "Language-Team: Catalan <ca@dodds.net>\n" "MIME-Version: 1.0\n" "Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8\n" "Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit\n" "X-Language: catalĂ \n" "X-Language-in-English: Catalan\n" "X-HasWikiMarkup: True\n" "X-Direction: ltr\n"
The template in i18n/MoinMoin.pot provides a sample header without those last few lines:
# SOME DESCRIPTIVE TITLE. # Copyright (C) YEAR THE PACKAGE'S COPYRIGHT HOLDER # This file is distributed under the same license as the PACKAGE package. # FIRST AUTHOR <EMAIL@ADDRESS>, YEAR. # #, fuzzy msgid "" msgstr "" "Project-Id-Version: PACKAGE VERSION\n" "Report-Msgid-Bugs-To: \n" "POT-Creation-Date: 2005-01-21 20:26+0100\n" "PO-Revision-Date: YEAR-MO-DA HO:MI+ZONE\n" "Last-Translator: FULL NAME <EMAIL@ADDRESS>\n" "Language-Team: LANGUAGE <LL@li.org>\n" "MIME-Version: 1.0\n" "Content-Type: text/plain; charset=CHARSET\n" "Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit\n"

Workaround
When creating a new translation (i.e. editing a .po file copied from i18n/MoinMoin.pot), copy these header lines from an existing translation (e.g. de.po) and adapt them to your needs.
Discussion
The *.pot file is automatically built by xgettext. Even if I add those X-... lines, they are gone again when I run xgettext the next time. So you just have to add them manually.
