moin usage
I've been using Moin since version 1.0 as the wiki server for my software development team. I'm currently running 1.1 on the server. After installing 1.3 on my local machine and reworking a bunch of extensions I'm hoping to upgrade the server to 1.3 this weekend.
One component of our methodology is Feature Driven Development. The wiki is integrated with my FDD backend (homegrown with PHP and SQL), test case database (more PHP and SQL), configuration management software (Perforce), and issue management system (ExtraView) primarily through macros.
The Moin and FDD servers run on Mac OS X. Clients used throughout the dev team include Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux.
With each project I refine my use of the wiki as the team's communications hub. There are awkward spots, but overall I'm quite pleased.
moin interests
I would love to have a simple WYSIWIG editor. I've also thought a bit about how to implement integration with external editors. The text area in Safari is lame (e.g. no undo).
I need to study and better understand the Moin architecture and idioms so I can write more sophisticated extensions. There's lots of additional integration with my other systems and automation of content creation that I'd like to implement.
about me
I'm a software engineer and engineering manager. I've been doing mainly multitier cross-platform Java software since 1997. Before that it was mostly Macintosh and C/C+-/C++. I got my BS/software engineering in 1990 and obtained my IEEE CSDP certificate in 2003. I do a lot of people and project management, software design and implementation, and research. Some random things that have been on my mind a lot in the last year are security, SSH, FIPS 140, Struts, project planning, decision support tools, Objective C, and formal technical review.
Moin has been my only exposure to Python. I still haven't learned it beyond what I need to hack away at simple Moin macros but the tutorial is always on my list of things to do!

Welcome, Steve!
Maybe have a deeper look into python. Programming with it is fun (less painful than other languages). I also began with hacking macros for moin.

Previous note deleted off. The problems I was seeing was down to a strange caching issue in my setup. Restarting everything fixed it. Works nicely for me, thanks. -- NigelMetheringham 2005-06-08 11:22:12
Is it possible to convert http://moinmo.in/MacroMarket/IncludeUrlContentWiki to moin 1.7. That is the version that is shipped with debian, and it will stay that way for at least a year. I would love to start using the macro, but I need it to work for that version.
