We will talk about how to optimize student progress and how to avoid them being blocked. Working regularly on a job is also a goal.
Mandatory weekly IRC meetings
Starting monday 17th of July 0900-1000 UTC on #moin-dev, every week until end of SOC. 0900 UTC = 1100 CEST
Every student and mentor is expected to take part. Don't be late, meeting time is limited.
Please prepare written stuff about:
- what you have been working on last week
- how your progress was
- what blocks you
You can paste this to the channel, line by line on request, so others don't have to wait for your typing.
We won't have long technical discussions in that time, it is just for everybody knowing what's his task and make arrangements for the coming week.
Mandatory daily commits / pushes and CHANGES.* updates
I already requested this from all of you. Some have managed to do it, some did not.
This will be handled as follows starting monday 17th of July:
You are expected to have at least 1 daily push to the public repository on hg.thinkmo.de (due at 23:59 UTC):
- If you wrote code, just commit and push it. If you know it is broken, note that in commit comment.
- Add a daily entry to CHANGES.yourname - if you did other work on the project (no code), you have to communicate that there, too. Don't expect the mentor to have positive phantasies about how busy your were. Just document it.
- In case a student fails to do this, I will commit a changesets about "student has not been working on the project today".
As you are not obliged to work every day on the project, this is no problem for you.
But if, in the end, we get the impression that SOC was not your main summer full-time activity (meaning you didn't work on it like you would for another paid fulltime job), this will become a problem for you.
Bug Reports
To help with bug reports, I have created a page for people to post tracebacks and code snippets to help unstick them, so mentors and other students alike can be up to date with whats going on in the branches.
